2012 there were more patent applications, fewer brands, Utility model and design patents

Munich. According to preliminary projections, the German Patent expected- and Trademark Office (DPMA) for the year 2012 increasing patent applications. In contrast, the authority expects utility models and industrial designs (Design protection) a slight decline in numbers of applications. The downturn in trade mark applications will slow.

“The level of innovation in this country is still high. Our company continues to invest despite the difficult financial situation in Europe in innovation”, said Cornelia Rudloff-Schäffer, President of the DPMA, at the 30. October 2012 at the opening of the Exhibition of Inventions iENA in Nuremberg. “The brands itself still shows the trend for European trademark protection on the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market in Alicante”, so Rudloff-Schäffer further.
